Had Disney stepped in after the bankruptcy they could have bought Marvel for peanuts and had full ownership and all of the movie rights.

If Disney had taken over Marvel when it was at it's lowest, Disney probably would have a much more invasive management strategy. They would have looked to their own marketing and other departments and dictated to Marvel how best to meet the "Disney Standard." Who knows what Marvel would have become under that much scrutiny?

I agree that Disney would have gotten a better deal, sure, but Marvel would have been at its weakest and since Disney has demonstrated it has no clue how to manage its comicbook lines (which have repeatedly failed in the US market), their oversight on Marvel might have meant Marvel's demise as well.

Don't get me wrong, I love Disney animation and comics, but they have an attrocious track record in the comics department. Since they bought Marvel when it was a thriving self-managed organization, Disney is doing the right thing by taking the "hands off" approach. Hopefully, they eventually turn Disney Comics over to Marvel and let Marvel manage it in a better way. Len Wein (currently working at DC) and Gary Leach (from Gemstone) were awesome during their time with Disney Comics. I'd love to see someone at Marvel with as much dedication and love for Disney managing that division.
