What would you consider to be Marvel's risky stories? Seems to me they've been rehashing past stories and making them bigger.

I think pretty much every story has been done before in comics at least in terms of broad brushstrokes. The daring things marvel has done are things like having a comic like X-Statix with the sort of writing and art that that book had, ultimizing the marvel universe like after Civil War and Dark Reign etc. With a lot of this stuff a lot of people were telling Marvel that they hated the direction but in that period a few years ago Marvel had to try a lot of new things to get reader attention and from doing this they learned a lot about how it not always the best to give people what they think they want and that sometimes internet outrage means you are doing something right. That doesnt mean that i think everything unpopular Marvel has done is a good thing (One More Day was a mistake IMO for instance) but i think it makes them more likely to push the envelope. Contrast this with DC where after fan reaction to Final Crisis was generally poor DC editorial seemed to be pretty quick to throw Morrison under the bus.

Avengers Dissassembled (Under Siege or any other story where the Avengers break up or are under some big huge attack).

House of M (another classic theme where the hero goes into a dream or some other scenario where they live the perfect life. For example something that Mysterio did a few years ago after Spider-mans relaunch)

Civil War (Heroes fighting heroes such as Avengers/Defenders war and govt gone awry stories like with the Secret Empire in control of the White House or Red Skull as Secretary of Defense).

Secret Invasion (was this really that much different from every other Skrull story?)

World War Hulk...a little more varied than the other Marvel Events but still pretty much comes down to Hulk fighting other heroes.

I found Annihilation awesome and unlike any other Marvel story...but I'm biased.
