If you had me bet, definatly Thor. I think that is why Marvel is releasing it in the spot primed to make the most money. Captain America is being released more towards the heart of summer so it is going to make it's money but shelf life is not going to be as long and buzz is going to be a bit more lost in the crowd.

I don't think Marvel even considered that when scheduling the movies.

- Captain America is the movie that is suppose to segway into the Avengers movie, it's even called "Captain America: The First Avengers". So they want that movie to come out before the Avengers film.
- Originally the schedule was suppose to be Iron Man 2 in May 2010, Thor in July 2010, Cap in May 2011, and the Avengers in July 2011. The schedules got pushed back due to time constraints. Even then the Cap movie would have been in May.
- The highest grossing films of each year isn't going to necessarily be in May. 2010 had Toy Story 3 in June, 2009 had Avater in December, 2008 had the Dark Knight in July, 2006 had the Pirates of the Carribean 2 in July, and so on. The first week in May has just become synonymous with comic book movies and the start of the summer blockbuster movies. No guarantee or even greater chance of success just because you come out that first weekend.
- Getting lost in the crowd isn't something that really happens. People will see a movie regardless of what else is out if they really want to see it. The Hangover 2 and Kung Fu Panda 2 both come out on the same day and both will likely see massive debut weekends. Both will make the same amount of money regardless of the other.
