why Defenders and not Avengers you ask?

    good question dude!

the concept of defenders is a non team, big heroes that come together only when a big problem is coming. this way we can use for each arch a diffrent cosmic "team" and use any cosmic hero we want.

The concept of the Defenders (I think in most people's minds) is a team that consists of Dr. Strange, the Silver Surfer, Namor, and the Hulk. The whole non-team isn't a real purpose, just something that the sales department tried to come up with to seem unique. I do think that the name Defenders is a great name for a superhero team though, it just needs to find the right fit for a team that will stick around. I suggest the magical/mystical team.

I think it's a necessity for the cosmic team to stick with the Guardians of the Galaxy name. GotG is also a really good superhero name, which others have already tried to emulate (Kirkman's Guardians of the Globe). Throughout the years there has never been a stable name for the cosmic team but we've had a couple of names such as the Infinity Watch, StarMasters, GotG, Annihilators, Heralds, and so on. There's also a really good chance that the next name to be used will be Cosmic Avengers, which Marvel has already hinted at.

GotG provides stability, and allows Marvel to have their own distinguishable brand for the cosmic team. Attaching the word "Avenger(s)" to a title is no guarantee of success, as we've seen in titles like Pet Avengers and Doctor Voodoo Avenger of the Supernatural.

And also, you can't have a title with no stable cast of characters. One of the reasons people pick up a select title is because they know what characters are going to be featured.
