Quote: The concept of the Defenders (I think in most people's minds) is a team that consists of Dr. Strange, the Silver Surfer, Namor, and the Hulk. The whole non-team isn't a real purpose, just something that the sales department tried to come up with to seem unique. I do think that the name Defenders is a great name for a superhero team though, it just needs to find the right fit for a team that will stick around. I suggest the magical/mystical team.Though I never read the original defenders series I tried to read a few of the recent defenders reboots. With the exception of the Geffin and Demattis humor one most of the Defender series I read were awful. I like the teams name, I feel as a name it is better than Avengers. But I hate the bickering non-team concept. (between that and bad writing that goes nowhere is why I quit New Avengers, If I didn't like a non-team their I wouldn't like it here). Plus the core characters have little appeal to me. I hate Namor, I am neutral on Strange, Silver Surfers personality always seemed bland on me and I have seen several variations on his personality in guest/supporting appearances over the years, and though I like hulk in his own books I never seen him do well in any team besides warbound and his hulk family. I think the name defenders is good and alot of the minor characters must have potential (all underused minor characters do). But I feel in order for defenders to make an impact nowadays they need to drop the big four and the non-team concept. That and get a good writer. | |||||||
