I've had this question for a while now. One of comicdom's staples has been to have two character archetypes to show the yin and yang of the characters. You know: light and dark; good-cop/bad-cop; basically, the good, all-american straight shooter and the dark, brooding guy who gets the tough jobs done. The pulp's had Doc Savage and The Shadow.
DC has Superman and Batman. Recently, we've seen The Green Lama and Black Terror over at Dynamite. My question: Who would be Marvel's?
I think Captain America would be the good cop, but I can't think of his counterpart. It would be easy to say Wolverine or Punisher, but they are both 70's characters and I can't believe there's not a better choice. Ideas?

Iron least how he's been portrayed for the past several years. Him and Cap seem to have different ideologies.

I don't think Cap has an counterpart in the way that Superman/Batman are. No one has really earned the right to be the voice that dissents from Cap and their opinion still carries weight. To me even if he was right Tony Stark came off as the god damn devil in civil war. Cap to me is the only DC type character at Marvel...he's the hero everyone lionizes. Because no one else in the marvel universe ever seems to get that same level of respect AND disagrees with mr. perfect he doesn't have anybody to give him a good counterpoint.

Personally I think it would be interesting to see a major difference of opinion between Mr. Fantastic and Captain America. They always seem to get along...even when they don't it seems like they both have so much respect for the other they hate that they aren't seeing eye to eye with each other.

Can't help but figure it was always meant to be Sub-Mariner and the Torch.
