I imagine that once upon a time, a Galactus story, or an appearance from Galactus was probably something special or meaningful, but I think that over the past few years (About 1-3.), he's been overexposed and watered down. I think that they should give the guy a break for a while. And for a guy who's supposed to be so high up on the Marvel Universe power chain, he sure gets his butt kicked quite a bit. It seems like he's got beaten (Or should that be been beat?)left and right by pretty much everyone recently. He doesn't seem to have such a high status anymore.

You can apply this to a lot of characters and villains - Doctor Doom is a good example, the surprising thing to me about Galactus IS that he appears so regularly! He's such an all-or-nothing character you would think he'd be near impossible to use, Marvel has no shortage of such Cosmic beings, but I don't think he's being badly treated on the whole. In recent years he gets beaten back by either a plot device, because he's starved, or faces another cosmic force, and that's a far cry from being in full health and held by Quasar or Thor.

I like the celestial Galactus that Abnett & Lanning gave us in Nova, if I had my way that would be the default treatment of Galactus, but then you get a character like the JM Straczynski version of Thor who is so powerful and removed it makes him hard to work into a story without watering him down severely, and I think that's what it's all about. You can only do that Galactus for a limited time as inevitably someone will want to use him in a plot focused on a new and all-powerful threat and he has to be used to serve the plot, not the character....
