Reply Subj: I didn't read "Battle Scars". Is Nick Fury Senior dead?

But he may as well be as far as Marvel are concerned because it appears clear that they are intent on shoe-horning him out of the picture.

At the end of Battle Scars, whilst Nick Snr survived, it was established that the infinity formula keeping him alive had been removed and that he would rapidly grow old and die without it.

This in and of itself was bullshit, because it was established at the same time that Nick Jnr also had the formula running through his veins - so whats wrong with a father/son blood transfusion?

Additionally, it was established years ago that Nicks infinity formula is now self replicating in his bloodstream in the same way that Caps super soldier serum is (he used to require a yearly top-up), so it cannot perminantly be removed.

Marvel appear to have ignored both of these factors in favour of forcing a Nick Fury more akin to that from the popular movie into prominance.

Fury Snr is still around though. He's a regular in the Winter Soldier series, and has also been revealed as the man with possibly the only plan to save the world in Age of Ultron. I however, like many Fury fans, remained concerned that Marvel intend to kill Nick Snr off altogether - especially if the fatality rate in Age of Ultron continues, or Marvels much rumoured reboot comes to be.

I hope that there is some resistance from some of the more ethical writers at Marvel, and that they continue to appreciate a classic silverage character rather than simply give into the management and force in what is clearly the Disney-mandated Nick Fury.
