It all fits together so well that I have trouble believing Frankie was ever thought to be anything but.

Roy Thomas may or may not have had this intention, but I have trouble thinking Byrne didn't. IIRC, Byrne even dropped a hint of this in AWC, although it was much later.

I see a lot of websites have Frankie's mother's name listed as Lanette Raye (I wonder where that reference comes from though). Ann Raymond remarried after Toro if memory serves and had a couple kids.

So refining my theory a bit. I think Phineas Horton sought out Ann Raymond after Toro was killed by the Mad Thinker. I'm thinking Phineas and Ann began posing as this married couple Thomas and Lanette Raye. I doubt Phineas and Ann's marriage was ever valid much less consummated (Phineas was much much older and Toro was an old family friend). Ann/Lanette eventually left Frankie with Phineas and Phineas lied and told Frankie her mother was dead. I'm assuming Ann volunteered to let Phineas hypnotize her into forgetting Frankie to save her from giving up Frankie to The Mad Thinker and his BFFs Egghead and Puppet Master if they ever tortured or mind controlled her. Ann/Lanette married yet again to some other guy whose name probably isn't important and had a couple kids with him who also aren't important.

Or maybe Toro just slept with some girl named Lanette, Lanette married Phineas and then died leaving Phineas to raise Frankie \:\)

Interesting topic. Pure conjecture but I like to believe that Byrne was working on connecting Phineas, Toro, Torch, Frankie and Vision. Connecting them all and reimagining how Vision was a torch after all - just not the torch we thought. Was Toro's dad a torch of some sort? Was he reinvented as the Vision? Was the group above members/generations of a family? Don't think we will ever know but it was definitely hinted that Frankie was related to Toro.
