Reply Subj: Fortunately I finally learned to stop buying these things...

Sadly, I bought Civil War, Secret Invasion, and Siege before I wised up.

More sadly, I knew after Civil War that I wouldn't like the next one, and knew absolutely after the next one that I would like the third, but I bought three of these things because I wanted to be able to talk about comics - and people who talk about comics were inevitably going to be talking about these silly things.

Finally, after the third, I just couldn't take it any more, and swore off these events.

I'll be buying Avengers Infinity but to me that's very different, because it's Hickman writing an Avengers story, and I like Hickman on Avengers. Infinity will just be more of the same. I won't be buying the tie-ins. I buy Iron Man so if that ties in, I'll be buying that as a matter of course.

Frankly, if Marvel NOW hadn't put Hickman on Avengers, I wouldn't be buying Marvel Comics at all any more. But I must say, I like Thunderbolts a lot right now, and Deadpool too, so while it's true that Hickman anchors me to the Marvel Universe, there are a few other books that I'm enjoying a lot, and which have nothing to do with what Hickman is doing.

Oh, and I'll say this much for the Ultron mess that is currently under way: It serves as the lead-in for Avengers: A.I., which stars a character whose book I would probably buy if two six year olds were writing and drawing it - the Vision.

It was BENDIS! that broke me of the buying habit. Before him, I had to endure Austin's Avengers run before I learned that buying a crappy run on a title just to have a full run just means your collection has crappy comics in it that you paid money for.

So, thanks BENDIS! and Austin. I now think before I buy. "What are the odds that I will enjoy this comic?"

And that means VERY few "events".
