Quote:Going by the Wikipedia entry, a retcon is an addition, modification or subtraction of established history. Claremont was expecting readers to believe that Genosha had always been there, Magneto and Xavier would let it stand.
Quote:So yeah, based on my and Wikipedia's definition, Genosha is a retcon because it was an addition to the MU's history.
So by that definition does any new country or race of people that gets introduced qualify as a retcon? Or is this one only a retcon because Charles and Mags should have had an emotional response to news about Genosha?
Quote:That being said, you do make an effective argument. If Xavier was utterly clueless to a bunch of mutants living in the New York sewers I guess it isn't all that difficult to believe he was ignorant of all those mutants living thousands of miles away.
Quote:I suppose where retcons are concerned it is far from the worst, especially in light of your examples and others presented here.
Yup. Madripoor is a retcon, for example. The Morlocks were retcons because it was implied it was a mutant society that had been there for a long, long time.
