    I always thought the Negative Zone was like DC's Qward. It's just an antimatter subdimension. Probably nowhere near as spacious as the main universe.

Not only that, but it was a universe in a natural state of contraction, while the main universe is expanding (of course).

    (not sure why positive matter people can visit either)

Used to be that beings from one universe had to reverse the polarity of their atoms in order to survive in the other. It was usually done automatically at the point of entry, so was quickly forgotten.
