Along with the rest of the 5,876 new titels marvel has 2 new titles that are based on DC charecters:
    Squadron Supreme - justice league
    Hiperion - Superman
    NightHawk - Batman

I hope they don't bother with a Squadron Supreme book. It's too on the nose.

sure it's a diffrent names, costumes and even attitudes. but it's still a thinly vailed copies.

The attitudes are important. Clark Kent and Bruce Wayne are popular as much for their personalities as for anything else.

do they have the Moral right to publish a line based on their rival properties?

I think maybe they do, though I admit it's a gray area. After all, Superman was a Moses/Samson combo when he first started. Batman was a Zorro analogue.

I always thought the Shadow was the big inspiration for Batman, his first story is exactly the same as an old Shadow pulp.

I've personally always rejected the idea of Superman as Moses. Moses became the hero of the Jews not the Egyptians. So it would have to be Moses in reverse. I remember reading in Gerard Jones book about the Golden Age that Doc Samson was a big influence for Siegel and that the powers idea came from not Samson, but rather Hugo Danner from the book Gladiator.

Just an interesting tidbit of history and theory.
