I'm a big Gaiman fan, and since the current 616 (or whatever they call it now after they blew it all up) doesn't appeal to me, I'm looking for some alternatives. Is Miracleman good? Accessible? Can I pick it up from #1 and know what's going on? Any recommendations?

The series is excellent in general, but start off with the Alan Moore reprints, because the Neil Gaiman material is a direct follow-up and will make no sense without it.

I think some of it's good...but some of it's bad. There's one point where Miracleman kind of comes off as a gay pedophile. It was like the equivalent of Batman making a pass at Tim Drake.

Miracleman is not gay, and Dicky Dauntless is in his late teens, so hardly a pedophile. It is however an interesting emotional can of worms which Miraclewoman created by telling Miracleman that his former sidekick is in love with him ... so we'll have to see how it pans out.

He kissed a teenage boy. And the kid was horrified. He certainly lacks boundaries.
