I think that's part of a larger problem that writers don't know how to write logical, stoic characters anymore. Look at Spock. He was once considered the most fascinating of the original Star Trek characters. The more recent versions of him in both movies and television are unrecognizable. Vision was Spock as an Avenger. Modern writers have zero idea how to write such a character.
