The Union 003 (of 5)
| > KELPIE GOES ROGUE! In the wake of the disastrous Knull invasion, Kelpie takes drastic action...but when her choices land her in hot water, only Union Jack will be able to save her!|
This book gets more fun. Completely dropping the KiB mandated crossover was welcome but TBH it was done too abruptly/jarring, too. Some MU shared universe presence would only help this book. In spite of that, it was great seeing each of the members get more powerset exposition and character evolvement that is appreciable in this 3rd installment. Arguably almost every superpower has been done so these new characters have got and engaging mix and match of them so far. It's a small shame that there was not as much effort put into the cover choice which was plain poser and the solicit that was unfairly misleading. Otherwise, the all the art was real good - with shades of Byrne (even Grummett) to it and a taste of JB's first Omega Flight run in Alpha Flight.
Union Jack: 2nd chance to show leadership potential
The Choir: "Songbirdish" interesting backstory update
Kelpie: Respectable showing and loyalty
Britania: Her complete absense still moves me some (anticipating her resurrection).
Bulldog: "Puckish" comic relief and representation
Selwyn: WOW. Very "Jaxonish": called it! The Sponge. Neat name/power and all of a sudden very interesting/layered
Det.Fraser: Notable new law-woman and (possibly) authority figure for the book
Shifter: Action packed intro and shock effective exit
Doc Croc: Fun name.
NO. NOT THAT TOON. And definitely not that nice. This (wanker?) guy is a mysterious new villain with evil vibes. Adds excitement as potential arch enemy of the team
Recommended. BTW, what does FY MLODYN BACH mean - some of that cliffhanger drama was lost in NO translation. And how the heck common is the first name ISHAAQ in the U.K.?!
I miss Dad & Dan.
[EDIT Mar3: Just learned that THE UNION team name is 'copy' of that from Jupiter's Legacy (TV series)
which is an upcoming American superhero streaming television series created by Steven S. DeKnight set to premiere on Netflix on May 7, 2021, which is based on the comic book series by Mark Millar and Frank Quitely from 2013! For what that's worth.]
