Reply Subj: MCU Drax is the curent comic version, not his original and better version

When Drax first appeared way back in IRon Man #55 he was intelligent, deadly serious and was able to match Thanos in strength and power and only lost in their fight due to the planet they were on blew up and he was caught off guard.

Subsequent appearances of Drax in his first incarnation, he was intelligent but laser focused on his programmed hate of Thanos, which was his weakness. He later gets his full memory restored which makes him even more dangerously enraged against Thanos.

Drax gets frustrated in that it was Mar-Vell who defeated Thanos and he goes into space. He later missed the fight against Thanos which ended when Warlock turned Thanos to stone.

He blames MAr-Vell and his single minded hatred gets focused on Mar-Vell. They team up to go to Titan to smash Thanos' legacy and Drax eventually changes his mind about Mar-Vell and leaves again.

Marv later perishes, and soon after Drax perishes after his own daughter Moondragon fries his brain.

in the 90's, Death revives Thanos and upgrades him, so Kronos responds by reviving and power boosting Drax to Thanos' new level but didn't account for how Drax perished last time. Thus Drax new, second incarnation is mentally flawed and is no smarter then the cartoon version of the Dinobot Grimlock.

Sadly this condition lasted for a long time and Drax basically was comedy relief. He eventually gets restored then later changed in his present day incarnation.

However I have always thought his present incarnation was a major downgrade, not an improvement.

Objectively, Jim Starlin did whatever he wanted with the character from the 1970s to the 1990s. It was his choice to resurrect Drax as a cosmic childlike Hulk at the same time than Peter David was writing the Professor Hulk.

On the contrary, post-1990s, Drax was resurrected (again) as a less powerful character but much more serious & lethal.
(More or less, around the time of the Annihilation Wave if I correctly remember).
This less powerful but more intelligent version has been around for quite some time.

In the MCU, it is this version that has been introduced.
Still, James Gunn has also chosen to present the Guardians as a light-hearted ragtag bunch of antiheroic bounty hunters and, thus, his version of Drax is more fun & funny than he is in the comics.

If they wanted to have an amped up cosmic character in the MCU movies, instead of shoe-horning Carol Danvers into the movies, they could have amped Drax up into his original cosmic version.

No, I don't think so. It doesn't match.

Regarding the chronology of the movies, 'Guardians of the Galaxy' was released in 2014 & 'Captain Marvel' in 2019.

Regarding the influence of the comics, the power level of the MCU GotG came from the version of the team that Dan Abnett & Andy Lanning introduced in 2008, 4 years before Carol Danvers assumed the mantle of Captain Marvel.

In the MCU, it is certain that the Avengers, especially Iron Man, replaced Adam Warlock, Gamora, Pip, Drax & Moondragon as the main opponents of Thanos but, contrary to expectation, Captain Marvel was not one of the main protagonists of 'Avengers Endgame'.

Currently, I am thinking about the possible comparisons that could be made between Carol Danvers & the Fantastic Four. For example, I am wondering if, accidently, Carol would be cannibalizing/vampirising the FF or not... At the present time, I don't know yet.
