Gulliver Jones pre-dated Edgar Rice Burroughs' John Carter novels. He wasn't quite as swashbuckling as Carter though and completely eclipsed. He pops up from time to time such as in the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen and teaming up with Carter over at Dynamite Comics.

I sort of wish Marvel would collect the Gullivar Jones strips, although objectively I doubt there's enough of a market for it, despite the fetching Steranko cover.

Just checked out these 6 covers featuring Gullivar. They do look good! And bonus: are probably more issue context-oriented than many, many titles today. Hope to get around to doing more in depth look at his history (marvel.wikia is wanting) but right now it is topically curious if the X-Universe, or the MU for that matter, could work in an Easter Egg reference to Gullivar Jones' Mars given that there will be so much more world building focus on *koff* Krakoa's Arrako now. Heck just the last name alone could get some kind of family tree connection to so many current heroes. Marvel still owns Gullivar Jones rights, right? Quite a few MU Silver Age anthologies had backup features showing varied civilizations on Mars, too, as potential story seed.
