Quote: In the early issues of Jane Foster Valkyrie, he and his realm were corrupted by the Anti-Tree. He's kind of undead or something.
Quote: That's about the most that's been done with him in a long while. The last time he did anything of worth (and I use this term loosely) was in that Incredible Herc arc where the underworld was a casino.
Marvel's system of multiple death lords has always struck me as incoherent, so I try to ignore it and I like it best when Marvel ignores it also. In general, having multiple pantheons works OK because the immortals seem mostly to ignore us mortals. But a death lord, by definition, has to interact with us, and that's where the incoherence comes in. Which realm does a soul go to? I know a prevailing theory is that you go to whatever realm you believe in. But what if you don't believe in any of them? Or what if you believe in several of them? For example, any long-time Avenger knows full well that both Pluto's realm and Hela's realm exist. The whole thing is just a mess, better ignored.

In Marvel, there's only one afterlife, and religion is irrelevant. Death mostly has no meaning in the Marvel Universe.
