Just got back from the movie and whilst there was a lot to feel good about there were a few things that left me feeling the film had suffered from the curse of 3. (See Return of the Jedi and X-Men Last Stand)

1) Waaaaaaayyy too much going on. With so many plot threads there was very little time for exposition and I feel that the film suffered because of it.

2) Why do the villans always have to have a secret heart of gold? Can't we just have someone who's nasty for the hell of it? Plus, Sandman SFX were very reminiscent of the Mummy a few years back. Not exactly cutting edge.

3) Is it Spider-Man 3 or the Peter and MJ show? I know the firts two films finished with Spidey swinging through Manhattan but it felt right and when the credits rolled at the end, following the last scene in the Jazz Club, it just didn't feel the same.

After the last two movies I left the cinema on a high and despite the film being good in parts, I just don't feel the same tonight and that makes me a bit sad.

I agree. It's an ok movie, but it's not on the level of spid 1 & 2 (and therefor somewhat disappointing. Especially with all the hype going on).

-spoiler alert-

the bads:
-Too much in one movie. There is hardly any time for convincing/realistic character development. Most villains and people hardly get any decent screentime.
-No good flow (probably because of the first point). It all felt very unnatural and too fast for me. It's like they ripped some of the best pages of several comic books and put all the pages together in one book without any overflow in between. It also felt like the director had to rush a lot up because of pressure from the studio.
-Too much Mary Jane centric. And she has to be rescued at the end again?
-the ending isn't very satisfying. I mean you let Sandman go with knowing your secret identity?? And Harry sacrifices himself for Peter while he wanted to kill him like a few hours ago? The venom symbiont and Brock get vaporized (and completely disintegrate/disappear without any trace) by one small goblin bomb?

the goods:
-the sandman scenes were cool
-plenty of fights for the action-lovers (but not on the originality level of spiderman 2 if you ask me)
-kirsten dunst looked better than in the first two movies (at least she did to me)
-good stan "the man" lee cameo
