> The solution may not have been perfect, which is hardly surprising since the task was dumped on PAD at the last minute, but the mistake really lay in what PAD added to the reveal. His reading of the previous Hobgoblin story led him to the conclusion that Ned and only Ned could be the Hobgoblin and that solution was accepted well enough at the time. I do not recall a groundswell of opinion calling for a revisit and different solution. Which is perhaps not surprising as the Hobgoblin mystery had been dragged out way too long already and most readers probably wanted to move on. "Hobgoblin Lives!" was published nearly ten years after PAD's solution and really served no purpose other than to provide Roger Stern with an occasion to "set the record straight" in what that vanity mini-series. And a lot of people felt let down when nonentity Kingsley was revealed as the real Hobgoblin and the solution involved the old, old cliché of the identical twin brother.

Indeedy. And whatever issues anyone may have with the motivations writers gave Ned, at least they gave him ANY motivation. Kingsley, who was already rich and powerful, became a supervillain....why? Why are we supposed to care about this man at all?

> And where did this leave Ned Leeds (to return to the main subject of this post)? His death in SMvW#1 was now nothing more than a dumb accident because of the Foreigner's mistake. Well, if Macendale was still alive he'd be entitled to a refund...

Outside of Norman Osborn sending the Thunderbolts on an international mission to bring in Kingsley to justice, this is about the only real potential storyline I can see Kingsley being good for. Regardless of whether Macendale is around or not, the Foreigner got paid a lot of money to kill the Hobgoblin, and sheer professional pride should demand that the Foreigner set out to put the original Hobgoblin in the ground.
