I don't see how you're drawing that conclusion. Mephisto said something like "consider it taken care of" or whatever. He wouldn't necessarily have had to take direct action. It seems likely that Martin Li was the one who healed Aunt May, rather than Mephisto doing it himself directly. Same would probably go for the secret identity. All Mephisto would need to do is make sure that the right people are in the right places at the right time.
