Peter Parker doesn't know Richard Rory, but he does know Greg Salinger. Check out Spectacular Spider-Man 58 for his first appearance. IIRC, Salinger sets off Peter's spider-sense, but Peter dismisses it. Salinger was inspired to become the Foolkiller after sharing a cell with Richard Rory, who told him about how he attacked Steve Gerber after mistaking him for the Foolkiller.

Check out Amazing Spider-Man 225 and 226. During Roger Stern's Spectacular Spider-Man run, Salinger appeared a few times, setting off Peter's spider-sense, but Peter foolishly dismisses it, apparently forgetting that his spider-sense is never wrong.
