The reason Rory was in jail was because he sort of kidnapped a young girl at the end of the original Man-Thing series. Granted that the girl's mother was a lunatic book-burner who aided an abetted an even loonier murderer, Rory allowed the kid to talk him into taking her away from Citrusville to get away from her mom...which made him a de facto kidnapper of a minor.
