Well, I can't answer any of your questions, but did find some limited info at http://www.comics.org/series/27517/covers/?page=1. Page two has more original covers.

The series started in 1963, apparently reprinting silver age Spider-Man stories, as well as others, and ran until 1973, and then started again in 1974: http://www.comics.org/series/29775/covers/

Okay, that makes sense from an easy money point of view. It's just that none of the posted images rang a bell for being from recalled american reprints [since could never affort the originals]. Sort of thought maybe they were redrawn past stories [in some sexy euro pencils].
