To be, just as RDJ is Tony Stark and Hugh Jackman is Wolverine, Andrew Garfield is (arguably) Peter Parker and (definiately without a shadow of a doubt) Spider-Man. This isn't to say that the other Spider-Men have been bad or haven't bought their own things to the table (though I have plenty of beef with Maguire, both his Peter and his Spider-Man).

But Andrew's enthusiasm for the role, and the perfect chemistry he shares with Emma Stone, is just amazing.

I don't mind that his Peter was a different take than what was traditionally thought of as Peter as what is viewed as an outcast in high school has changed. I really didn't mind some of the more morally gray areas his Spider-MAn explored because that, to me, really goes back to how Ditko envisioned Spider-Man. You read those early issues and Peter pretty much only ends up doing the right thing near the end, and often for the wrong reason. Sometimes you'd finish an issue and if the book didn't say "AMAZING SPIDER-MAN" on front, you'd wander if you're witnessing a hero's origin story or a villain's.

I think a lot of ASM1s problems come down to editing and an obvious last minute butcher job. ASM2s failures were a bad internal editing and probably playing too much to focus groups, and some horribly script and dialogue. Neither of which should reflect on Garfield as an actor.

Whoever comes after Garfield will have some massive shoes to fill. That opening scene in ASM2 where Spidey is just swinging around...the movie sucked, but that opening scene was amazing. To me, that is Spider-Man.
