So what the heck is going on with Ultimate Peter Parker? Is he even in this issue??

I know Bendis brought him back -- and established that Ultimate Peter Parker (UPP) cannot die. Then Bendis seemed to write UPP out of the series by letting him go off to retire whilst Miles carried the torch.

(This, of course, goes so well with the 'great power / great responsibility' thing, doesn't it? If you know you cannot die, that's an additional power and should carry further responsibility, shouldn't it?)

It seems like sloppy writing for Bendis to reverse such a high-impact story as the death of UPP. It overshadows Miles as a character, detracts from the power of the original story... and seems to do so for no real reason. Certainly the first arc of the MM: Ultimate Spider-Man series wasn't all that great.

However, I have more faith in Bendis than that. Overall, I'm not crazy about him as a writer, but he really shines with Ultimate Spider-Man (both PP & MM). So I figure he must have a plan for UPP... and I'm a bit surprised that he's letting it go for now.

A happy ending they stick with is far better from my point of view. So long as they stick with it and only have Peter appear very rarely in it.
