Quote:I very much liked Spider-Man 3 myself, but yes, the butler was always an issue. It's pure deus ex machina, and even setting that aside it doesn't really work. The glider flew into Norman Osborn from a distance. How could anyone who wasn't there determine that the wound was self-inflicted?
The writers have said that the butler was supposed to be a hallucination of Harry's but they cut out the scenes that implied that.
That is interesting! I had never heard that before.
Spider-man 3 was not good. It did, however, have massive potential to be good. The idea of a movie where Peter's rage drives him to a deeper and darker place until he finally learns to make peace with it is compelling. Unfortunately, by introducing the symbiote Peter's emotional arc is stunted. Nothing he does is his fault and the consequences of his actions are never explored. This movie could have been great. Regardless of whose idea Venom was (and I have always heard that Avi Arad insisted on Venom) the choice to put the symbiote and Venom in the movie was a bad one. And, ultimately, a choice the franchise has never recovered from.
