Quote:Some of the low lights of Ben's spidey run:
I loved Armada. I just liked a new villain, I like a lot of new villains instead of the tired old classics, and I found his habit of naming his mechanisms quite endearing. That he also worked with Mysterio was also quite fun to me. I'd like to see him again.
Quote:3. The spider-skeleton
Yes, note to writers -- don't start a story when you don't know where you're going with it. They didn't, and it sucked.
Quote:4. Peter dying
Yes, this too was pretty awful. It made you think Pete was really the Clone, but it was just nothing but a fake out with no pay off. I have to say that 'Peter dies of mysterious illnesses' plots tend not to work... (The Other springs to mind)
Quote:5. The virtual reality story
I'm not sure which one you mean. The only one I can think of was before Ben became Spidey, but I don't remember one afterwards?
7. Black Tarantula
8. Rose and Delilah
Although Fortunato, Rose and Delilah did all just appear in the last few issues of Spidey, Black Tarantula didn't. And the Fortunato / Rose stuff only really kicked in once Ben was dead. Okay, Delilah kicked in beforehand, but not by much. I think you're getting the pre-Gathering stuff mixed up with the Ben Spidey stuff. Maybe?
I actually really liked all that stuff. I'm a sucker for Gang War stories, and Delilah and Black Tarantula were interesting to me. Black Tarantula was nice as an amoral villain who had no threat from Peter, whereas I thought Delilah was fun for being nuts. And the Rose story didn't seem as tired as yet another Goblin for me, although for me, I couldn't stomach any more Roses (which is why the recent Rose in Jackpot didn't do it for me).
I liked Fortunato for being different to the old tired Kingpin, and I liked that his son was used for being Venom II, and that is how the character was given an ending. So few characters get a fitting ending like that - Marvel often resort to killing them off for shock value, which is a great waste of everybody's time because, well, comics. Back next week from the gates of Hell, and usually in a very unconvincing fashion. I still smart from the TiMe BuLLeTS.
Quote:I didn't like any of that stuff.
Which bits in particular did you like?
For me, I didn't like The Final Adventure, DK, the Will o'the Wisp appearance, the bland Lizard story, or Jimmy 6 out of the Ben Reilly Spidey stuff, but pretty much everything else for me was great fun. I really enjoyed it all I have to say.
I really didn't want Peter back as Spidey when I read the stories through. I'd've rather Peter be depowered and retire with MJ, with Ben Reilly being a knowing Clone and living his own life as Spidey. That would have been perfect for me. But too daring for a franchised character I think.
who hopes 2015 is better than 2014.
