Quote:As it now seems marvel, under the "lead" of Disney will be pushing to the curb peter parker, for a minority new Spiderman?
Quote:So completely made up ramblings dressed up as "a rumor" (aka something I made up), mix in a bit of conspiracy, and something that actually isn't new at all since Miles Morales was introduced what...3 ish years ago now?
Quote:isn't this already played out, with female thor, Falcon Cap, and with the FF4 gone by by now?
Quote:Not really "played out" at all and all are within their history too. There have been several Thors, and other people have taken Cap's mantle. Even the FF has switched out, including Spider-Man himself being on the team at times.
Quote:Why can't marvel. if they wish to have more diversity, actually create new figures, while leaving classic versions still intact?
Quote:Well, they did. There is absolutely no indication that Peter Parker won't be some white guy.
Quote:That being said, I would not at all mind if a black actor was chosen to play Spider-Man. But because there already is a Black Spider-Man character in Miles Morales, I'd rather him play that character than Peter Parker.
Quote:But in an alternate reality where Miles didn't exist, why couldn't a black man play Peter Parker?
Quote:Is Peter Parker inherently a white guy? Is that all Peter Parker and Spider-Man is at his core? Just a white guy?
Quote:No. Peter Parker is many things. Smart, possibly brilliant. A bit of a recluse pre-powers, and a bit of a wise ass post powers. Someone who struggles to do the right things for the right reasons but will eventually make the right choices. Even if he stumbles along the way.
Quote:Peter Parker being white is absolutely meaningless to his character.
One of the things I thought of recently is that Peter isn't white, he's an American. Since the idea of an American can mean many things, he could be portrayed as black, Hispanic, Asian, whatever. Clinging to the idea that he should be portrayed as a white guy is rather silly. Of course, the idea only works if they don't make it an issue. It should be a Peter Parker that just happens to be black rather than black Peter Parker.
I'd rather see a black actor play Peter Parker than Miles Morales in the upcoming movie, but that's mainly because I know nothing about Miles. I'd even rather see Miguel O'Hara as Spidey if they wanted to go ethnic but not use Peter.
