ASM#54.LR advanced the plot a little further, with an emphasis on 'little' but when the key happenings occur, they're a major turn in the doorknob.

It was a smart move by Julia (not that it hasn't been done before nor that it was such a tiringly decompressed set up) to put Sin-Eater out of comission (even though readers surely can't figure how from that briefest precog collage until next issue).

These key happenings included unaltered reprints of Spectacular Spider-Man#200 which specifically retain references to Peter and MJ as husband and wife, yet another demise for Sin Eater, and a big reveal that MJ has been set up as bait by Norman and Wilson Fisk to take down Harry

Commonly, the dangers of recapping older stories is that the pages tend to be better written than whatever it is that are referencing it to further their current stories. Like so many fanservice reboots and relaunches that rely so much on the periods where their source material had to truly earn those moments orgnically.

Luckily, Spencer has enough sense to compliment the reprinted pages by giving Mary Jane a stirring speech full of agency, she makes it no secret she can understand the truth of Norman, and that she is risking trust in him more for Harry and Peter's sakes

It was a generous and genuine treat, of Marvel, that the pertinently incorporated 4 page prologue flashback appears to be a Marvel bonus as the price remains the same with this extra FREEBIE offering.

Nice of Marvel to include a suicide prevention number and PSA at the end of the issue after depicting Sin Eater's suicide.

It was a kind gesture. Must admit, it also had me wondering about the social adeptness of readers today compared to the decades of coping with all those past stories involving galvanizing comic book life challenging traumas that are inherent in this medium - without PC disclaimers.

I can't help but feel Spencer only brought him back to pad the issues out with the Morlun hunt though, but then, that would'nt pad out a seperate trade from LR would it? Or make that sweet green for that inevitable omnibus edition would it?

And we get to the involvement of the big much does he know about Peter now let alone Harry if he's using Mary Jane? Has his memories from Family Business been restored?

It will be interesting to see a year from now how Kindred's ultimate pain caused to his freinds and family compare to Knull's which presumably happens immediately afterwards. This looks like it'll also another sort of odd example how Kingpin's action to stop the antagonist will indirectly help save Spider-man.

With one further issue to go, the question isn't so much as "who is Kindred and what does he want?", it's more "What is the point?", Spencer needs to stick not only the landing, but also spell out the purpose of Last Remains.

Here's hopin' for a memorable ending (and some BND danglers repair).
