I think one of the points of the Ben Reilly character is that it trades off the disloyalty of the fans. Here is a man who is basically Peter Parker with an even more depressing existence than Peter. The fans love Peter because of all his virtues and his humour and his relatability. They would CLAIM that anyway. But Ben has all these things and has been treated horrifically and still keeps trying to rise again and again. He is inspirational. But for all that Ben knows he is not the real Peter Parker, his memories and values are inherited not lived. That is why the new plotline with Ben finding his own morality potentially based on his love for Janine is so important.
I am worried that Beyond will take even Janine and Ben's love for her. This would utterly destroy him making him a true emotional 'chasm'. It would be horrible resolution for this character who is one of my favourites.

So you are saying Ben is more tragic than Peter, equally heroic but doubts himself because he is clone. Then the fans don't feel he has legitimacy either because he isn't the 'real' Peter Parker? Its true, from that point of view its a cruel world.
