I have heard a lot of REALLY bad things about this run mostly associated with a lot of dislike for Ausen's writing. I have read some of his stuff in other titles and other companies and didn't really care for most of it myself but it wasn't awful. I also heard that he wasn't even allowed to finish his own story or that he finished the story under a pseudonym. Can someone explain to me exactly what this was all about and what was wrong with these books or this story. I notice that they are reprinted in trade and that the individual issues themselves seem to be somewhat hard to find in my area so I was just kind of curious what the grumblings were all about.

Rev, I would think twice before reading anything written by Chuck Austin. His stories are among the worst I have ever read, not only his superman stories, but his run on X-Men and I believe he did a bad job on Avengers while I was reading it as well.

Basically, Austin wrote a wise cracking comedian while he wrote Superman (I honestly don't know what he was thinking). It almost gave off the feeling that Chuck had never read a Superman comic in his life; while there is nothing wrong with a little comedy it really just didn't seem to be in character for Superman. I can recall one line Chuck Austin had Superman say "I'm Super Dude!" (I kid you not) or something along those lines, it was at that point I realized Chuck is a little crazy... Well I actually knew before that Austin was insane because I was unfortuneately reading X-Men during his run on it. I don't read X-Men anymore thanks to Chuck.

Just so I don't seem close-minded towards Chuck, even though I am, and for good reason, I will admit he could probably write a pretty good Spiderman. Hope this answers some of your questions. Just steer clear of anything and everything written by Chuck Austin, unless of course it's Spiderman.
