> >When he fought Earth 2 Superman during the Superman issue of Infinite Crisis, the power he and E2 unleashed damaged space and time and destroyed Earth 2 completely (it was restored by untold means later). They didn't even hit the planet -- just themselves, destroying the planet in one final shot and causing the universe to go all whacky.
> Of course, this is due to the multiverse being unstable during the crisis.
According to Superman it was the battle that did it: "The struggle between us has shattered the boundaries of space and time." Nothing else said.
And it was their final blow that nixed the planet: "So it continues ... with a blow that shatters the world." And with that, we see the resulting explosion and funky reality effects -- which, along with Supes and E2 switching lives at the start of the fight/arc, are examples of them having "shattered the boundaries of space and time."
Supes, like the Flashes and Superboy, had his game way upped during IC. This was his last hurrah prior to the Busiek/Johns softboot.
> >He and Phantom Zone Zod also destroyed a planet (during Lee's run), incidentally, just by pounding on each other (each hit on them was transfered onto the planet, or something like that).
> It is specifically stated in the book that this is due to them both being part of the fabric of that world (a world that Superman created in the Phantom Zone). Hence it breaking apart as they pound on each other.
Don't disagree here. They hit themselves and the planet likewise got hit: "With every blow we land, the ground beneath us shakes. As our skin splits, so does this earth." They definitely were linked to it, that's why it took the hits they put on each other: "This world I created, it's somehow linked not just to me, but to General Zod -- a Kryptonian who was banished here and became part of its fabric. The more we pound on each other, the more Metropia breaks apart." They survived; the planet did not.
