Smith is a decent stand-up comic (see the footage on YouTube) and I liked his Daredevil run (the one he completed, rather than the one he abandoned) but his films are pretty dire. The promise he showed in "Clerks" has never been realised and he would have been a disaster for Superman.

And Jon Peters may well be an idiot, but his name was attached to "Batman" and "Superman Returns" and I loved both films.

Chasing Amy was a good effort and it realized a lot of that Clerks promise of edgy humor and Jersey-fun. Jay and Silent Bob and is only funny if you remember 1970s road trip movies (like Muppets or Blues Brothers). Dogma only works if you've never read the Preacher.

But Clerks 2 is worth the price of admission. If you liked the first Clerks and saw it when it first came out, you'll enjoy Clerks 2. It show progression and a sense of beauty. It shows how he's grown as a director.

The Superman script was bad, but remember this was the first adaptation of something other than his own work. And, if you notice he even points this out in the interview, that he was more of a dialogue guy than a plot guy (and most Superman stories are plot driven).

I'd rather see Kevin Smith take a stab at Batman. He was originally inspired by Dark Knight Returns to make Clerks. Maybe not a movie, but I'd love to see him do a "talky" Batman story...with Batman interacting with a common person ala the Hitman/Superman episode.
