I believe that when he does that he overloads himself and repeated sundips, like you said he should do, would cause damage to his cellular structure. He has shown to act like it's too much for him to handle and would perhaps be a risk that would be foolish to ignore. Even he should have a limit on how much solar energy his cells can store and I believe he has to use up all that extra energy before he explodes or something.

> Another idea, why does superman not have a fortress in space? it would be hard to get to/secure and hed be at top strength visiting it all the time!

I think this was more the case during Byrnes era. Fighting Rampage (solar powered) he absorbed her solar stores into himself, the result seemed to be vastly improved speed at least(he saw lightning moving in slow motion) the down side was agony and the potential to explode.
The whole cellular structure/i cant handel it seems to be a mix up of full heart of the sun dipping (which iam not suggesting) and the problems superman all star is having, which has no relevance to mainstream dc, which is what i was really intrested in. Also superman prime was shown to be a possible future superman that seemed able to absorb limitless amounts of solar energy add that to superboy prime having a higher lvl already along with KC superman tolerating green k due to higher lvls. I dont know if supergirl is more powerfull any longer or not. I Remember daxamites being more poweerfull than supes at one point, dont know if thats changed.
