Starting with this issue, the price of ACTION is now $3.99. Instead of the usual 22 pages of the main story, we were given only 20. Justifiying this price increase is the Captain Atom "Second Feature" (I like to call it a BACKUP), which is a mere 10 pages long. So in reality, I'm paying a dollar extra for the story I buy the book for, only to get two pages less of that same story. Additionally, I'm paying for a story I wouldn't buy on its own.

In spite of all the competition (videogames, DVD, cable TV, the Internet), it's still no wonder nobody buys comics anymore. Prices that historically rise faster than the rate of inflation, combined with asinine editorial decisions, are killing a once-great medium.

Several years ago I spent $20 on cable and had about 30 channels. Today it costs me nearly $60 and I have 100 channels. Its not because I wanted more channels and upgraded. Its just that was the smallest package with what I wanted and they kept upgrading the smallest package adding channels I had no interest in.

I imagine if I go out to eat and tell them I don't want a salad or one of the sides on my meal I won't get a discount on it.

More is added to something to justify the price increase. They just don't ask customers if they want it.

Eventually the extra story will be cut but the price will remain the same.
