It is to me supreme irony that while marvel keeps on trying to get a Superman done who is very powerful and is regarded as being a top gun, see Hyperion/Gladaitor/sentry/Blue Marvel/etc, DC wants to it seem create a marvrl like status on this NU earth, with the superheros seen more as either rogues or anti heros by humanity!

Why not just have lex Luther take out all of the competition, and live him as oNLY viable option to stop big blue, to be THE nemensis to kal, as he always has been?
