I don't know what to say about the subject when the publisher is firmly sending out two completely opposing views on the question.
The original thought behind keeping Death of Superman in-continuity was apparently based on it being such a monumental story; though since this is a whole new canon and reboot that urge to keep it as a part of the new history makes no sense in practical terms. It would have made more sense to just retell the story as a part of the new ongoing narrative, which to a degree is what Superman:Doomed is all about.
But since Doomsday is such a one-dimensional character, who's entire impact and importance stems from that now deleted 20 year old story where he was Superman's ultimate challenge... well, he's like the new Superboy - What is the point of him?

His ONLY use would be as the one able to best Superman, as the one enemmy who would be more then a physical match up for him!
