As I understand it he revived an old concept of his own and opted for Crowd-funding, a gamble, but one that paid off handsomely for him. A lot of people seem to resent that success, though that seems to be a reflection on them rather than him...

Yes, he went to crowd-funding, and first built his audience by complaining about comics and the comic industry.

I have never heard or read anyone talking about his comics good or bad.

People are supporting him because they like what he says about the comic industry, not because of the quality of his comics.

I am not saying it is not a fair way to make money, it is no different than a columnist. But just like a columnist, you need something to talk about.

Personally, I don;t think about him one way or another. However, I do seem to recall that when this whole annoying Youtube/twitter arguing back and forth about comics began, many of the creators who were being insulted said that many of THOSE people (but admittedly not Van Sciever)were jealous of THEIR success. Dan Slott notably comes to mind.

It's almost as if someone complaining about people being "jealous of their success" is just someone saying they don't like to be criticized.

I don't know or care enough about Ethan Van Sciever enough to know the internal workings of his mind, or if he has any real issues or if it is all social media hype. Partially, because I think social media is stupid.

I do however know enough about him to see that his commentary is where his fans really come from, and that is fine. Whatever he does or doesn't say does not as of yet effect. but that DOES mean that you have to have something to say. Like...say, a rumor about a comic character that would get people's attention.

Maybe it is true and maybe it isn't. But until DC announces it, it would be wise to be skeptical of the ex-employee who makes money criticizing the industry. That is not to say I don't think there are perfectly valid criticisms., and for all I know Van Sciever has made them.
