From what i have read & heard over the years, the phrase "american way" refers to freedom. Why not just say that Superman fights for truth, justice & freedom?

Way back in the days of the Max Fleischer cartoons, Superman only fought for "Truth and Justice". A few years later, when radio show came over the airwaves, the slogan was changed to "Truth, Justice, and The American Way". They probably could have said "Truth, Justice, and Freedom" back then, (it was during World War II) but two words and a phrase sounded better than three words. IMHO it still does. That why I started this tread in the same way.

The Superman IP is a product, just like insurance, fast food, automobiles, detergents, etc. Products (and the people in charge of marketing them) change slogans as the times change.

Superman has been referred to as the "Man of Tomorrow" as least as far back as the eighties, and probably further back than that. (I'd appreciate any insight anybody can give me on this.) Adding a phrase that included the word tomorrow seems to fit the IP.
