Way back in the days of the Max Fleischer cartoons, Superman only fought for "Truth and Justice". A few years later, when radio show came over the airwaves, the slogan was changed to "Truth, Justice, and The American Way".

I'm not sure about "a few years" as the radio show predates the cartoons, with the first instance being in 1942. You're probably dealing with months at best, as the cartoons debuted in 1941.

They probably could have said "Truth, Justice, and Freedom" back then, (it was during World War II) but two words and a phrase sounded better than three words. IMHO it still does. That why I started this tread in the same way.

It the American Way means the same thing as freedom, there is really little reason to change it.
