... That's news to me!

Long story short: A ways down (posted by the user Red Orion), it's said that Coipel will be off of 'Thor' for 2 issues and then will be back with #9, apparently.

My question is this: Given the amount of lead time they had on this book, why would they need a fill in at just #7? Sure, I know life happens sometimes -believe me, I know-, but I was always under the impression Coipel was a fairly timely artist.

Plus he hasn't done any interviews at all (anyone else notice that? Must be a language barrier thing, or he's just a quiet person in general) in the last couple months outside of the initial launch, so who knows what might be going on there.

Well, I suppose we'll find out what the real deal is near the end of the month with the January '08 solicitations.

If they had to get a fill-in artist though? I'd go with Andrea DiVito or Ed McGuinness. Can't go wrong with either one.

Did they have a lot of lead time? Despite the amount of time Thor has been in hiatus, it has only been relatively recent that JMS was designated as the writer. Before then, we had Gaiman and Millar being wishy-washy about writing the title.

And even with the lead time, it may be a case of the creative team choosing the most appropriate time for a fill-in artist knowing that eventually a fill-in artist will be a necessity. I'm guessing that a two issue arc following the first arc was viewed as an opportunity to give Coipel a further cushion.
