the difference between asatru and skinheads are many.but to answer your one question in regarding race, white supremacy groups seem to think that the gods only want white men.which is false, the only thing the all-father ask is for those with brave hearts to stand with him at ragnarok.he doesn't care if your male or female, black or white onlt that you are brave and true to the gods.i hope this helps your question and good luck in walking the path you have chosen.

You might also find this link will help clear things up somewhat.

I'm Asatruar, and my esteemed Co-mod and friend Lightning Strike is a devout Christian, yet we're respectful of each other's views. Unfortunately some people view paganism as a tool to be Anti-Christian, which misses the point entirely (and don't get me started on LaVey's Church of Satan or as I prefer to see them, 'Bizarro-Christians'. ;\) )

The key to Astaru are the Nine Noble Virtues. If they sound like something you could respect and follow, it may be the right choice for you.

And for the record, never join any group that require 'donations' to become a member. The Gods will see your actions whether you pay some New Age shyster or not.

Just to start out, my question could be considered of a religious nature, but are not intended to offend, step on, question, or in anyway be regarded as offense, discrimitory, or anything else of a similar nature on your religious views. I am simple curious.

From what I understand of Asatru, they venerate the gods that were worshiped by the ancient Norse and Germanic people who are commonly referred to in popular culture as the Norse gods or Teutonic gods. These gods include, but are not limited to Thor, Odin, Frey, Freya, Frigg, etc.

Something I have long wondered having grown up in a monotheistic upbringing is this: How do you regard such beings?

For instance Thor: Since Thor is often seen as a protective force against evil/danger/etc do you view Thor has a name given to some type of protective force? Do you believe the view of him as a red-bearded male was a way the ancient Norse attempted to relate to this force, but ultimately that is only a metaphor to link to this force? Do you believe this force has an intelligence behind it or is veneration merely a sign of respect? Or is it that Thor really is a red-bearded male who may reside in another world fighting giants? Is it some combination? Or is it some combination of the two? Do you believe that if he manifest say...in Norway he can only manifest in one place at a time?

I know that your beliefs may not be every Asatru's beliefs, but I am trying to get a better understanding. Again, this is not meant to offend you religious sensibilities in any way.

Thank you for your time.
