Rather than go lord of the rings they went x-files. Yet they have frost giants and trolls. The end result is a lack of a clear and distinct identity or cultural hook.

Meh, you can make that sort of thing work just fine still. Aliens and random energies would still fit ok as far as I am concerned. I like the magic angle more but I guess they thought it was harder to swallow for a general audiance they are going for.

Perhaps they can pull a transformers with it although, let's face it, the Destroyer blowing up cars in a small town is hardly epic.

I hope it is much better than Transformers. Money wise I guess we hope for that but those movies are not that great. I do not have a problem with the Destroyer thing. As Thor and Loki will also fight in it. They could have the Destroyer downtown or something but check out the first IM. It is not like the city was in total peril. Obidie put the suit on because they were coming for him and probably would have just taken off. So it does not ahve to be world ending in the first movie.

Frankly, they've deviated so much from mythology, which was based on magic and spells, cunning and courage, I fear that the public will see this as just another bash fest between aliens. I really hope they can pull a Michael Bay with this one.

Marvel comics also deviated from the myth too, just saying. And I hope they do not pull a Michael Bay, I rather there be a story.

marvel was never spot on with the myth. it was based off of it, but totally a new animal.

in this movie, the gods are super-advanced beings (from the lee/kirby run) with advanced weapons and technology. so advanced that it's magical. so advanced that tony stark can't even comprehend how it works. they came to earth during the time of the vikings. the locals, seeing these mighty beings for the first time and their powers, thought nothing else, but that they were gods. the locals copied the asgardian's traditions, looks and attitude. hence, the birth of vikings.

from the sources i've been hearing and some friends that already seen most of the movie, they said it's probably going to be one of the best movie of the year. i don't want to get my hopes too high, but sure is looking good!
