Subj: In the movie, they're not gods who are somehow fundamentally tied to the powers of the universe

marvel was never spot on with the myth. it was based off of it, but totally a new animal.

in this movie, the gods are super-advanced beings (from the lee/kirby run) with advanced weapons and technology. so advanced that it's magical. so advanced that tony stark can't even comprehend how it works. they came to earth during the time of the vikings. the locals, seeing these mighty beings for the first time and their powers, thought nothing else, but that they were gods. the locals copied the asgardian's traditions, looks and attitude. hence, the birth of vikings.

from the sources i've been hearing and some friends that already seen most of the movie, they said it's probably going to be one of the best movie of the year. i don't want to get my hopes too high, but damn...it sure is looking good!

Instead, Thor and Odin are just blonde aliens in powered suits with various high tech gadgets at their disposal.

This is not what Lee/Kirby had in mind. Lee/Kirby's gods were actual gods, just like in Norse mythology. The rock men from saturn were aliens.

The reason I brought up Transformers is because it's one of the few alien flicks that did well.
