But it does seem we're highly adept at commenting and criticising, but not actually conceiving funding and producing films. I also read the lead item in culture (Sunday times) which also criticises and virtually condemns the (US) film industry as infantile etc.

People will point out that Brit skills, experience and expertise are frequently used and that we do make great films, e.g. The kings speech. The problem addy is that is ALL we do. As great as it might be, I'm not interested in the stutter of some non-elected wanker. Fantasy films, comic book based films and anything vaguely epic would NEVER be made here, as no one would put the money up.

So, whilst sniping can be mildly amusing (let's not hope accurate!) let's remember that this snobby, look-down-your-nose attitude is endemic within the fledgling industry and that its holywood that has the vision, commitment and scope to make this films that entertain millions in the first place.

Yeah.... I can agree with most of what you said here. The UK does always have that snobbery attitude to most things foreign even in this day and age like they are still the great " British Empire " that once " ruled" the world. It's one of the reasons why I left.

Ahh.. the word " wanker " I haven't heard that in a while...

what a great piece of English vocabulary, beats anything american \:\-\)
