First it is Thor is more of the legend than Mjolnir.

Second Mjolnir is still a very impressive weapon BECAUSE of the very fact that it is empowered by Thor. It doesn't take away from it's awesomeness as a weapon it ADDS to it.

That Thor is or not more legendary is not the issue. The issue is how his hammer came to be praised so much by all starting with Thor if all it does is give him the ability to be Thor. Thats, by all right, lame as hell a gift to receive when you happen to already be Thor unless you want to explore the philosophical side of it all.

Also, I might be mistaken but I thought Odin was the one who had empower the hammer not Thor. Thor empowering his own tool is problematic on multiple level from where I stand. That he can channel his own life force through the hammer to make awesome attacks is nice but that Mjolnir provide him with nothing beside more focus really is, dare I say it on this board, pathetic. I'm sorry but IMVHO, it's lame, lame, lame...  of course I don't ask others to agree with me, I simply state what I think and it only engage me.

Odin used Thor's power to empower the Hammer. Part of Thor is tied to the hammer, making him reliant on it. This was part of his lesson in humility.

Also Mjolnir is legendary because it was wielded by Thor. It's nearly completely invincible. I mean you don't make Galactus shout out in pain for the "first time in millenia" without it being seen as a very powerful weapon.

But it was the very power Odin tied to the hammer, Thor's power, that makes Mjolnir so formidable. When Odin took that power away in Thor's fight with Hulk, it was left as a simple Uru hammer.
