like i said in the above postings, the reason the "worthiness" enchantment was placed was because odin wanted thor to learn humility and gain his powers and memory back. once that was done, the enchantment should have been removed once thor learned his lesson. and when thor came back from being "dead", and possessing the odinpower, thor should have gotten rid of it then. mjolnir is basically the odinpower in a small percentage. and having doctor strange fix mjolnir by only embedding the odinpower in it really made it for lazy writing. sigh...the 2 things i want writers to think about is:

1) removing the enchantment because it's really dumb to have thor being handicap from this.

2) exploring thor's mother gaea and telling us that side of the story.

I do understand where you're coming from, and I would agree 100% that there was a period there after the Simonson run where WAY too many characters were able to lift the hammer, but I'm not sure I agree that it should be removed entirely.

By the way, when you say it should be removed, I assume you don't mean that just anyone can lift Mjolnir, but rather that Thor and Thor alone can lift it? That would mean adding a new enchantment because, throughout Thor's history, the main function of the worthiness enchantment is to prevent others from wielding Mjolnir, not to allow them to do so.

Originally, of course, that was the idea: no one but Thor/Blake can lift Mjolnir. Then Simonson invented BRB in order to rock the boat a bit and create a shocking moment to generate interest in the title. It worked, but it has been imitated far too many times since by lesser writers just looking to attract a little attention.

For me personally, I don't think the worthiness enchantment should be removed because, very occasionally, it can generate an awesome storyline if used appropriately. And the rest of the time it serves its purpose of preventing people other than Thor from lifting Mjolnir. However, the gimmick of having other characters lift Mjolnir should be put on the shelf indefinitely.

Actually, with Fear Itself on the horizon, it wouldn't surprise me to see Steve Rogers wield Mjolnir again, but since there is precedent there already, I don't have a big problem with that. It's a case where I don't think that Steve Rogers should technically be worthy, but it works ok as a symbol of Thor and Steve Roger's brotherhood as fellow warriors.
