Tom B, Joe Q and others - this is what writing in character is supposed to look like.

Subj: This is a great example of HOW the fight is written being more important than the outcome

Where FF #12 was BAD this was the complete opposite. This was GOOD...

Ultimate Comics Ultimates #4

And it was all Thor! Entertaining battle conclusion. One helluva line by Thor:
Speaking of 'hell', an intriguing way to work in Asgardians. What do posters, here, make of Ultimate Valhalla?

Really liked the Fury&IM cameos(and faith in Thor). Really liked the villainy portrayed. Really liked the many of the images(except the cover). REALLY liked the surprise cliffhanger revelation!

I miss Dan.

Make no mistake - Thor "ultimately" loses but he does it in style against an opponent designed to be above everyone.

However he does it with style.
Great dialogue particularly with Odin and Balder's spirits when Thor feels despair at his defeat.
"Father, what do you want me to do?"
"Everything you can."

"Do you have faith brother?"

The spread where the spirits of Asgard's fallen reveal themselves to be in the Valahalla that now resides within Thor's soul.

For an issue where Thor is beaten this one holds a great deal of promise for the Ulty Thor character and the Ultimates in general.
You get the strong sense that Thor is on the verge of even greater heroics - win or lose.

Ulty Thor has never been in better hands than with Jonathan Hickman.
